Mechanism

At very low doses, dopamine acts on visceral vasculature leading to vasodilation and increased urinary output. At slightly higher doses, dopamine acts to simulate alpha and beta receptors which increases HR and cardiac contractile force.

Dosage

1-3 mcg/kg/min for renal effects; 3-10 mcg/kg/min for inotropic effects

Indications

Low CO, CHF

Action

Inotropic agent, increased organ perfusion leading to increased urine output

Site of Action

Alpha and beta receptors
